Eheim 2217-HELP!!!!!

The fish survived but my back and arms were sore from the 23 days of subsequent WC required in order to regain the tanks BB which was lost during the cleaning episode.Eheim 2217 is a great filter and requires simple minimal maintenance once figured out.

OMG!!!! I got it together!!!!! Thank you Ceri for that diagram it was AWSOME!!!!
And Mott thanks for the picture it did help to see how it all went together:)))
Now I have to prime it,LOL, another problem, but at least it's together, wooohooo!!!

Hey Briar14 23 days of wc's!!! Glad everything turned out good in the end. Hard lesson learned for sure!

I find the easiest way to prime Eheim filters initially is to have NO WATER in the canister. Assuming your filter is completely assembled and all hoses/tubing/fittings are connected properly, Quick Disconnects are connected and open and the filter is unplugged from the power source, do this:

Remove the spray bar, from the J-tube if you have one, or from the hose/tubing near the tank rim.
Quickly suck on the end of output/return hose or tubing. This causes water to be drawn into the filter from the intake in your aquarium.
Wait until the canister fills with water and all air is evacuated from the filter. Some water may rush out of the return hose end. Keep this end directed into your tank or you'll get water everywhere. Alternately, you can put the return hose end into a pail and use the Q.D. shutoff valve on the output/return to stop the flow of water.
Reconnect the output/return hose to the spraybar.
Now you can plug the filter into your power source.

I'm sorry but this thread is hilarious! I realize not everyone is mechanically inclined so please don't take my comment to heart.

If one has double tap valves on intake and return tubing, no need to reach out to spray bar. Do so at double tap valves. Prime the canister by sucking on DTvalves, canister must not be filled with water. You dont want to swallow the water, lol.

When doing maintenance on filter, just unplug, shut off all 4 valves and separate each double tap valves in the center.
Remove canister with half of each double tap valves still attached to filter. Leave intake & return tubing with the other half of double tap valves attached to it and hanging from the rim of the tank.
Take the fillter to sink/toilet bowl, open top valve then bottom valve. Wait until drained and do routine cleaning.
Once filter is reassembled, reconnect both double tap valves.

Open all the valves and it should start to refill canister by itself since tubing was already filled with water. Wait unitl filled , gently sway/shake, plug and another gentle sway. Voila! completed.

Yes it must seem hilarious to some people but, I'm just one of those that learn from watching and doing not reading....maybe I'm just gettin old,LOL, but unfortunately that's how it goes for me.

Ceri, I separated the tv's that connected the spray bar, that's what you had down as "A", man I sucked realllly hard a few times, even got some water through there(spit that out!) and connected but not filling, will try again and again....wish my neighbor was home this weekend!
So the offer still stands, I mean it, I'll make you a cheesecake, and they're dam good! LOL!!! I'm eheim challenged!!!

UGHHHH! I was sucking on the wrong **** tube!!!!!!!!!! It is now done, primed and working. It took all of 3 seconds to do with the right tap valve. Sorry Ceri, had alot going on here all at once, I guess I just didn't pay attention to what I was doing, thanks everyone for being patient, it is very much appreciated:)))

I may be mechanically inclined enough to not need directions on most things but never ask me to 'scape a tank or what colors go with what! I know nothing about style and color coordinates. Just give me a T shirt and some Levis and I'm all set.

I don't know what's better, I think I'd like a little of both. Let's see what I do with the aquascape. Have some plants and rock, found a great piece of grapevine can't go into an aquarium(no one at the store told me that!) I'm now waiting for background plants and ferts to arrive. Will post some pictures when I'm done. I know I'll probably change it 10 times before I put fish in:) I checked out your gallery, you have a really nice set up and I love your Oscars! What are the yellow cichlids?
