Curious with what media you guys stuff your eheim classics with..
Considering the price of all media is $50+ ($30 just for substrat pro) i am thinking of doing a 50/50 mix. Half of the canister filled with substrat pro the other half with polyfil. This filter will be working together with a fluval 404 on a 55g tank. Fluval contains all media (sponges/ceramic rings/polyfil)

Will this work fine? How full does the canister have to be with media? can it be 3/4 full and still be fine?

Thanks in advance

Any combo is good. You want to stuff a Classic. Use some nylon potscrubbers at the bottom if needed to get it packed pretty full - snug, not too tight. Have spares for down the road when some media erodes a bit.

ah thats right pot scrubbers how could i forget about those.. 99cent store here i come!!

So i would place it as follows.
Bottom- pot scrubbers
middle- substrat (got the coco puffs looking stuff)
top- polyfil

Thanks Squawk

Edit: also my canister only came with one quick disconnect valve. I figure i can still work the filter just fine with one of them. Just will be a PITA when its time to d/c the canister for a cleaning..
Would it be best to place the single valve on the outflow direction to control the strength of flow?

I guess the Bath Scrunchy needs to be of nylon construstion so it wont break down? Interesting concept, I wonder about flow and its longevity as a mechanical filter.
