Hi Friends !

Just wanted to know what this 'impeller' is and where is it in my Filter ?

What else do I need to know about it etc....

Kindly help me and advice...

The impellar is the propellar looking piece that inserts into the motor housing.

It looks like this.

Hi there !

Thanks for caring...

But I dont see anything like this on my 2217... is it inside the Top Lid ? Do I need to open it and check for something etc... or can i just leave it like as it is ?

Kindly advice....

You're welcome.

If it's made the same way as the 2215 I have, the impellar is held in by a piece of plastic that twists to lock into place. The piece is a couple of inches long, tapers slightly at the ends, and twists into a couple of tabs to hold it in place. This is all going on with the motor housing -- the heavy top part of the canister filter -- on the side that goes inside the green canister that holds all the media.

If you're having a problem with your 2217, it's possible that there could be a problem with the impellar. The shaft on it could be broken or froze up. Gunk can build up in that space around the impellar over time as well, which reduces output some.

What type of problem are you having with your 2217?

Hi there !

Thanks again !

Actually I'm not having any probs so far with my 2217 (its just come today morning and has been running only for about a few hours now...)

I just wanted to know what the impeller is and where its located so that I can detect any problems that might occur in future etc... ( I hope that no problems occur soon though...:)

Does the impeller need regular cleaning or replacment etc ?

Thanks again for the advice and for caring....:)
Take care and Have a Nice day !

Under normal circumstances, the impellar should last for years. It's very easy to access, making it a good idea to clean it whenever you open up the canister filter to change or rinse media. I think the shaft is ceramic, so it's important to be somewhat cautious in order to not snap the shaft by torquing on it too much. Similarly, if the shaft's metal, it's important to not bend the shaft, as that would create problems as well.

Good luck with your 2217. I've really like the 2215 we have... It's been a nice little canister filter that's done what I've needed it to do.
