Eheim 2217

It is always recommended to run your hoses/lines as straight as possible from the canister to the tank without any dips or loops as these will restrict your flow somewhat.

I agree with tankboy_taylor that you don't want them too short or they will kink and you do want to allow some length so you can still easily disconnect the filter for maintenance.

Interesting

Did you put the filter floss in any sort of bag or sleeve? I'll be getting a 2217 today or tomorrow and I've been thinking about how to keep filter floss in there. How often do you change the filter floss? Are you running any media or just the floss?

I removed the filter pads, some of the ball-shaped media (I forget what it is called) and stuffed in a few good handfuls of floss, making a layer about 2-3 inches thick once it is compressed. All of this is inside the media bucket that's inside the filter cannister. I take it out about once a month, squeeze the floss out in the water that's in the cannister and put it back in.

So far, no problems.

I'm gonna run mine just like the box shows for now. Maybe I'll do a little changing up in a couple weeks when I take the carbon filter out. Yes, I'm running the carbon filter....change is good sometimes ;) Maybe RB was right about carbon all this time LOL. I like the "cocoa puff" looking substrat ROFLMAO..
