Eheim canister filter for 38g

If you're on a budget go with the classic. It already includes media and priming it isn't really that hard as some people make it out to be. If you want to spend more go with the pro 2. The 2026 should be more than enough for your tank.

More than enough but not too much? That's my main concern. If it's not an overkill I will probably get it despite the price... Let it be my b-day present :)

I have the eheim classic series going on two of my aquariums and they are seriously not that hard to maintain. You only have to prime it once and after that you just turn off the filters and shut it down with the valves. The water stays in the tubes so when you start it up again priming is not even a concern and completely unnecessary.

I don't think it'll be too much unless you're gonna have some fancy goldfish or some type of fish that wouldn't appreciate current in the tank. I have a eheim 2028 and fluval 404 on a 50 gallon and the fish (mostly cichlids) are just fine. Also, I think you might have to buy some extra media if you get the pro series.

Thanks. I think I will give the 2026 a chance.
I ordered one at petsmart.com, comes with a media bundle, $170, shipping included, so I'm pretty happy. Once it arrives I'll see if I need to get anything else or whether the "bundle" is enough.

I bought the 2026(w/ the media bundle). So awesome.

The bundle was complete. I didn't need anything else. In fact, I had extra Ehfisubstrat left over, about half a bag (mine came with 2 boxes).

Filter runs so quiet, I can't even hear it running. Makes the water crystal clear :)

Well, just to wrap this up, the 2026 arrived yesterday and was set up and installed. It's unbelievably quiet. I couldn't be happier.
Also, it does not seem to cause too much current. In fact, the Penguin moved more water around. So, it's here to stay, unless something goes wrong.
Thanks for everyone's help!
