Eheim canister filter vv Emperor

I have an eheim 2117, and its the BEST filter I have ever had. Its virtually silent and is definitely better than the comparitively priced XP3, and even the XP4.

As for priming, I pour water down the hoses and into the filter; havent had the need to suck.

Yup I hooked a Eheim 2217 onto my 55 planted and the water quality couldn't be better. I have it in my bedroom and can't hear a thing when I'm sleeping. If you hear any noise it's probably caused by air bubbles in the filter. Just try tilting it in different different angles and the bubbles will go away. You can't go wrong with Eheim classic:thm:

Got to echo the chorus here: the Eheim Classic series is extremely quiet, mechanically nearly fool-proof, and priming is a non-issue. Use the supplied double-tap valves on the intake and outflow hoses and you'll only need to prime the intake line the first time you set the filter up, and on those rare occasions when you take the hoses down for cleaning. Since the filter fills with water from the bottom up, all you have to do to prime the filter after cleaning it is hook it up to the intake line, open the outtake valve on the filter, then open the intake valves; as water fills the canister, it pushes the air out. When the water reaches the outtake valve on the filter, close it, hook the filter up to the outtake line, open the outtake valves, and turn the unit on. That's it! And if the idea of loose filter media bothers you, just buy a couple of good filter bags - they work just as well as baskets do, and make cleaning a snap.

If there was a need to suck on a hose, to get a prime back on a canister after cleaning...It would not be worth having, no matter how quiet.

:iagree: I suppose one could but the extra accessories to make it prime.. sorry not for me.....:)

I have a couple eheims -they ARE silent! If you kneel down and listen to it you can hear the water flow, but you have to listen for it. I also had a Emp-400 for about a week - lol - it was so loud I traded it in for a couple penguins.
