Eheim Cannister Filter Problem - Please help

Hi all,

I am a newbie here and am seeking advice from you kind folks out there.

I have setup a 160 Gal Tank and I have encountered some problems withe the Eheim filters I bought. Could anyone share your experience if you have similar past experience or know some solution ??

Eheim Filters :

I bought a Eheim Pro II 2028 to be used in this new tank rated at 230V/ 50Hz and thought that a correctly rated transformer could still get the filter going. Here where I am staying has 110V/ 60Hz electrical supply.

Imagine my surprise when I setup and plug-in the filter and the impeller runs intermitently ie the filter not running smoothly with "tacking" sounds. I strip the filter apart and immersed the head in water and tried again but encountered the same problem. It could be a defective head that I bought or is a problem of the voltage/ frequency of the electrical supply.

Does anyone tried EHeim filters rated for 230V/ 50 Hz and used it in a country where the electricity supply is rated at 110V/ 50 Hz ?? How did you manage it ??

That sound is often heard if either there is air in the impeller well, or if the impeller itself is incorrectly seated or broken. First thing I'd try is to pick up the filter while filled and running, and turn upside down and/or shake in an attempt to dislodge the bubbles.

I don't know about the converter for the electricity, but I would think that getting it tested would be a fairly simple task.

Call Eheim!!!

Call Eheim ASAP.

Using electrical equipment at voltage other than what it is rated at can damage the equipment.

Some electrical things can be run with one of those expensive voltage converters ($200), some can be run with those inexpensive voltage converters ($20).

Eheim can tell you what to do.
