Hi Friends !

I just received and installed the Eheim 2217. Just wanted to get some advice regarding a few things-

1. I have used the Original Filter Media that came with the Box - i.e the Different colored sponges, Blue, White and Black. Is this setup good enough for my 65 Gallon Tank or should I have used other media like Ceramic rings, Bio Balls etc ? Will this Filter Media also clean my tank well ?

2. After installing everything, I see that only in one of the Filter's Outlet pipe there is a rare drop dripping out - is this ok or dangerous ? I have secured the connections of the pipes and the Taps but only at this junction, I guess I have'nt threaded the screw properly and hence the very mild leak...

I'm afraid of rotating the Screw as it may come off... Kindly advice what to do...

Help me friends....
Regards
Kush

Tighten it a bit more. If the hoses are old & stiff, they may need to be replaced. The pads will work for mechanical filtration, but I prefer a combination of mechanical & biological filtration. To get more biological filtration, ceramic media would work, but a cheaper alternative would be to use nylon pot scrubbers. You can put them at the bottom of the stack (be sure to clip out any little metal rings sometimes used to hold them together).

Hi there !

Thanks for the kind advice and for caring...

Just wanted to request you to kindly let me know if there's any way of reducing or controlling the flow of water output from the filter ? I mean is it ok if I partially close the outlet tap of the filter ?

If there's an adjustment on it, you can use that, but w/ the classic series (as far as I know), there isn't one and they're designed to run under slight negative pressure, so restricting the output would change this and, possible, lead to leaks. One trick commonly used to lower the velocity of the water coming out of the spray bar is to use a drill to make the holes in it a little larger.

Thats a great idea thank ! I guess I'll do that soon... thanks again for caring...

Just one last thing that I need to know very urgently... Can I switch off the Canister filter regularly ? I mean should the filter be running continously or is it ok to switch it off occassionally ? Actually I'm running 3 filters on my tabk and i thought that I'd give them all regular rest periods...

Kindly advice if its ok or will it harm the filter ?

I have 2 of these 2217's. They should not leak any at all.
If the leak is where the hose meets the rigid connectors do the following:
Turn the filter off.
Back off the collar/nut in question all the way back.
Make sure the hose goes all in/over the barb (ridges).
Screw collar/nut up against the hose-end as far as it will go. Don't let the collar/nut push the hose off the barb!

Note that the collar/nut goes over the hose-end pinching the hose slightly.
In other words, the collar/nut goes slightly over the end of the hose.

^ right, but if the hoses are old & stiff, you nay have to trim an inch off the end that used to be on the filter to get a good seal, and even then, if the hoses are really stiff, they may prefer splitting to sealing on the barbed fitting. All you can do is try it and see.
