Eheim classic or Fluval?

Dont you know when one says nothing ever goes wrong, it usually does & it pours when it rains!!! Never say Never, LOL!

One mishap with failed filter while away was enough heartaches for me. Always had back up filter ever since, even small box filter is better than none.

reviving the thread - I have found a 2028 (nearly new) with extra filter media for $175 - and after some research - I think I'll compare it with the extra HP of the 2217.

I can get a 2217 with a hydor 300w external heater for $13 more from Big Als free shipping - Would you opt for the 2028 or save the $$ - I still have to source other parts.

The reviews I hear for the Pro 2 are very good - most owners are very happy with them - It has a higher GPH with media than the 2217 and it holds more media. Most of the advice in this thread were pointing at over filtering being good. I was originally going with a 2215 and you guys talked me into a 2217 :)

Part of me loves a bargain - especially when this hobby can be so expensive. My new tank spreadsheet still has a list of items that still need to be sourced.

I plan on running a 300w Hydor inline heater and an inline CO2 reactor. I hear that will reduce flow - will that require more filter throughput than the 2217?

I havnt lost my confidence on Eheim except W/D version.

Eheim is well known products and should have no problem obtaining necessary parts for even discontinued models but may cost bit more and/or bir difficult to obtain(?), not that you gonna need parts every day.:)

I hope you arent planning to inject CO2 into filter. I rather do it on return tubing after ext heater.

See if you can nego as much as possible as by the time you replace all the old mediums(used), it may cost as much as new 2028.

nope, heater and CO2 will be on the outgoing line. Once I get all the parts, etc. I'll do a page on setup and how it goes.

I tried negotiating the price on the 2028. $175 was down from $200 - they have 3 boxes of foam pads and 2 boxes of carbon pads to go with it.

Has someone who's used inline CO2 and an inline heater give me some advice - I didn't realize there would be an issue with flow when placing those inline.
