Products that are now made in China still carry their good reputations, but most have suffered such a downturn in quality that it probably should require a name change and starting from scratch. Thanks for the heads up.
I am so over the Aqua clear HOB filters as well. The last two that I bought brand new are so noisy and rattle so badly that I have to remove the tops! One of them also overflows from the back when the filter gets just a tiny bit dirty after only a week or two and that is with the filter tipped downwards toward the tank all the way. I switched out the two filters to a Fluval C2 HOB and am hoping for the best with them but I'm not gonna hold my breath.
Don't even get me started with the heaters.........
Barbara, what do you think of the Fluval C2s? They are on almost clearance like prices at Amazon.com - which makes me a little wary - but I was tempted!
I figured out why my ACs leaked. The same issue for BOTH filters. My friend took a look at them, it is the little plastic molded piece that goes just over the impeller for the intake to connect to. It seems that piece was just a little too big and it caused a stress fracture in the brittle clear plastic. The piece has been sanded down to allow a bit more clearance. A little epoxy on the crack, and now both filters are good as new!
Still don't like them...because they're clear, brittle and bulky...but thank goodness for their media, which is on all my HOB filters
