I have had this eheim 2213 for over a year and want to add it as a back-up filter to my 75g that already has a Rena filter. I am confused on how to put this thing together though. The directions are not very good, IMO.

My question: do I cut the hose in half or make the piece that goes to the suction side somewhat longer, and if so, how much longer? And where do these double tap disconnect valves go? At least I think that is what they are called-four of them came with the filter but I do not see in the directions how or where they go. I am assuming they are attached somewhere close to the pump head but how and how many (two on each hose?) is a mystery to me. I would really appreciate any help from Eheim owners. I love my fish but I am hopeless when it comes to figuring out equipment. Thanks!

Try this link, it's the best description I've found about putting the Eheim canisters together and how to clean them down the road:

The double taps connect to each other like this (this one leads to the spray bar, the other set goes on the intake - the double taps can be disconnected from each other in the middle for maintenance):
