Eheim Filter?

Have a new 80 gallon tank that will be a simple freshwater setup. Question: Would a "Eheim Filter 2217" be a good filter?

This is what they say.....The 2217 is suitable for aquariums up to 160 gallons and has a pump output of 264 GPH. Comes complete with media (Ehfisubtrat, Ehfimech and fine and coarse filter pads) and quick disconnect valves.

Yes, that would be a great filter. You might be able to get by with a 2215, especially if you have more than one filter, but a 2217 would be fine. These are the Classic series filters; they're not as user-friendly as the Professionel II series, but they highly reliable, totally silent and a great value.

Eheim filter... droool... sounds perfect, and I'm jealous

Eheims are great filters and I tend to over filter. If you cut the 264 gph in half you get it turning your tank over 1.65 times. I would go with it but add another HOB filter. Also, put a pre-filter on the Eheim.
