Eheim - pro or classic?

I'm ditching my Elcipse for my 37 gal & want an Eheim. But now i can't decide which version to get.

The pro model 2222 costs almost $50 more than the classic model 2213, but can pump 132 gph compared to classic's 116. However, the classic model 2215 pumps 165 gph & still costs a few bucks less than the pro model.

So which one? Is the pro that much more convenient to justify $50 more? Or should i just go w/2215 'cause it pumps most, or the 2213 'cause it is "good enough"?
 
I would go with the larger classic if you have high bioload or like higher filtration. It is hard to beat the efficiency and simplicity of the classic. If you get (they may come with) the dual disconnect valves, you turn off intake turn off outtake turn off pump unscrew and walk to the sink with your filter - less than 30 seconds. Plus the media and pads are cheaper to replace than the pro.

I have an eheim pro 2026, it is unbelievably easy to restart. I just click the hoses back on and usually it fills completely on it own if I haven't taken hoses off to clean, otherwise I just push the big button on top and the siphoning starts up, no prob. I don't think the refills are very expensive as they last for a long time with just a rinse.
 
I would vote for the Pro - if you fill both trays with Ehfimech, your cost will be about $24 per year for replacement pads that you change periodically. You will have the Ehfimech for life. I think that you would also be happier with the larger capacity. I do agree that Eheim is the best brand to go with:D
 
FWIW I have a classic 2215 that’s 12 years old. (I don't know when they first came out).

I looked at them in the store the other day and they haven't changed one bit. To me that speaks volumes about the thoroughness of the design (If it ain’t broke…). Also, I can get accessories and replacement parts right off the shelf. I'd like to see you do that with a 12 year old HOB!

(To prime it I just stuff a powerhead in the suction line until water comes out the return hose.)

I have had the ECCO for quite a while now (2 years).

I actually broke the top lid mounting teeth when
I did a 100% clean of the unit and the mofo still works.

Its pleasantly quiet and reliable.

The only hassles with it that I have is that
the pump rate is about 3/4ds of that reported
in the spec. I have given it a massive clean yet
still not 100%.

Filtration wise I am happy with it.
