EHEIM vs FLUVAL Canister Filters - What's your opinion???

Eheims are simply better quality filters than fluvals IME. I've used several "regular" fluvals, (not the FX5 or the G3) and after buying a used eheim professional I sold off all but one of the fluvals as I ran across used eheims. The remaining fluval is still in use, but there's an eheim standing by whenever I get around to switching over to it, likely the next time the fluval gets cleaned.

Cheers guys for all your responses, it looks like I have nothing to worry about with the EHEIM! And as long as it is capable of keeping the water clean and fish happy then so am I :)

I have a fluval 404 and an eheim 2213 classic and they are both great!
If I had to choose one brand over the other I would choose eheim just for the fact that it is about 5 times quieter.
Effeciency they are equally as good.

Eheim's are the top of the heap. Fluvals apart from the FX5 which is a good filter are frankly ...rubbish. The G6 is a gimmick wrapped in a marketing brochure and clogs up constantly while allowing massive bypass.

I wouldn't buy the fluval G6 or any of the similar models of eheim filters. Even the thermofilter; sure, it's nice to have the heater in the filter rather than the tank, but waaay too expensive for replacement parts when it inevitably dies. The classic or low-end professional series are great reliable and long-term durable filters.

I have a fluval 305. Nothing to flip over.

I have 2 FX5's. I love them. Probably more than you need on a 40 though.

The new fluvals come packed with features that I personally and most others would probably never take advantage of.

Find out what model the eheim is. Eheim makes absolutely amazing filters and you will probably be happy with it.

I got a new fluval 205 and I cant hear a thing from outside the stand. When I open the door I can hear a slight hum but that's it.
