I'm considering transition from a whisper HOB to a cannister filter. I go to one LFS that recommends Eheim and the next says Fluval, which is it? Are Fluval filters just as good for less....please share your thoughts!

Eheim was the first in the game, but they're both good brands, as is Rena. What size tank do you have? Maybe someone can make recommendations on a specific cannister based on your tank.

The only cannister filters I have used is a mag 350 , eheim ecco 3336, and a eheim classic 2217.

In my experience I would give eheim the edge, all and all it seems better built and needs less maintanence. Im currently using the 2217 on my 75 and it does a great job.

I also use the 2217 on my 75 gallon and have had no complaints. Quietly running for 4.5 years problem free.
I also use 2 - XP2s on my 90 and they work well also, but I still like the Eheim better (don't know why, just do..lol)

I've got a 55G... so I'm leaning toward the Fluval 305 because I'm worried that my HOB is nearing the end of its career. Plus the cannister would be an upgrade. What might anyone recommend?
