ehim vs fluval

I vote for the eheim all the way. I have two eheim classics 2215 going on my 125 with an aquaclear 110 and I couldn't be happier.I also have the same filter going on my 46 gallon discus tank and it is wonderful.The eheims have been going strong for almost four years now with no problems to date with them. I have never owned a fluval so I can't comment on them but I have heard that they are not as good. You pay a little more for the eheim but I think it is well worth it. If money is not an issue, I would go with the eheim.

My I offer a possible alternative? I will recommend a Cascade canister filter. It's great, reasonably priced and super easy to clean. I've only had to prime it once when I first set it up. All I do now is turn off the valves on the hoses, then I unscrew them from the canister. Then I carry the whole thing to my sink with the handle on the canister. When I'm done cleaning I reattach the hoses, open the valves and it automatically starts siphoning the water into the canister. Plug it back in and that's it.
Oh and as far as quiet goes, the fans on my light are louder.
The only draw back is that the largest filter thay make is for a 200g tank. Not like the Fluval FX5 monster.
I paid $150 CDN for my 1200 that is good for 150g.
Maybe check them out.

Eheim hands down. I run a pair of Pro II 2026. One has been running close to 5 years with pressurized co2 pushed through it as well (no space for internal or external reactor or diffuser).
The filter has never missed a beat so far and is as quiet today as the 1st time I hooked it up. And this is one of the areas that comparison article falls down on- durability. How many folks can you find with 10-20 year old Eheims still working great vs those who say the same about fluval?
The other problem with the review is it relied on the manufacturers media load. I run extra floss in mine for mech and in one instead of the noodles I run AquaClear sponges custom cut to fit the media basket.

You would have to touch the eheim to know that's it's running whereas the fluval you can hear it hum from a few feet away. If quality and quietness are what you're looking for then eheim is your filter.
for anyone thinking of these two. i know the Enhims are NOT CHEAP. But i just got a fuval 204. Here is teh trickl to setting it up...

I had my father and me install the the canister on my 30 gallon. It is VERY quiet and the directiosn are written perfectly. if you fallow the directions, it works GREAT.
