I think the suggested norm is 2 to 3 weeks. Some changes in tank parameters may have an obvious effect sooner but the longer period should make any improvements obvious and mitigates other normal fluctuations in tank parameters that may have an effect on plant health/growth.
Forgot to mention, growth rate of your tank will have an affect also. High light, high growth tank will react quicker to any change then a low light.
Are you using CO2? IMO, you will see results very quickly whether you have high or low light. EI dosing is more geared towards CO2 enriched tanks.
