Electric Blue Jack

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience keeping electric blue jacks. I found a baby for sale at a quality store for $40.00. Its about an inch and a half. I've heard they are sort of unstable as juveniles and are difficult to raise. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have heard the very same thing, so the best advice I can give is make sure that you see it eating before you buy it.

I can tell you they are very skittish and Peaceful compared to the regular Jack Dempsey. They are also very sensitive to foul water and higher PH.

they are pretty fragile. you'll need to keep the water extremely clean. if you need to, add some driftwood to the tank to help lower the pH

provide plenty of cover for him with some caves.

keep his diet varied to provide the best growth.

Grow them out in solitary tanks till one yr old.

I am going to grow it out for sure by its self. I have a 35 that I am going to raise it in with some dithers and then put it in my 90g.

Didn't have a place for mine.... right now he's in a tank with... er... about 10 half inch demaoni and acei fry.... but this guy is close to 2" and is having no problems(It's a PH 7.2 and medium hardness.. if not a little on the soft side). I had to put him there because he was terrified with the growout tank I had him in... the 2 severums in the 20g i had planned on growing him in , though just 2.5" had him hiding at the top of the tank.

He's eating well... and I will be removing the fry to a larger growout tank next week. He'll then have the whole tank to himself.

Mine has a little 'bubble' eye. Not popeye but his cornea looks like something from the jetsons! It doesn't look natural, but he seems to be OK.
