I just bought my first Electric Catfish today. I'm keeping it in my 55G feeder tank, I usually keep aprox. 100 goldfish in. I've read that the EC should be kept alone but do you think it will be okay with the feeders? Will all the gold fish stress out the EC? There is also a 4" Common Pleco in the tank. I've provided several caves for the EC to hide in and he doesn't seem to bothered by the gold fish. I run two filters on the tank and keep it pretty clean.

PS: I just had to do it, after having him in the tank for a couple hours I couldn't resist and touched him. WOW! He is only about 5 inches long and he made me pull my hand out of that tank and jump like you wouldn't believe.

A 55 should be good, at least for a while. There isn't much info on them and its hard to find out there max. size.

Feeder goldfish aren't very good for nutrition, guppies are better, and they should be quarantined and gut-loaded.

They can get up to about 3ft in the wild, but they avg about 1ft+ in aquaria. Cute when small, ugly when big. Very interesting fish. We have 2 right now at the LFS I work at.

Well he seems to be doing pretty good but he is destroying my feeders. In 3 days I've removed about 2 dozen dead floating goldfish. Not sure if I just got a bad batch of feeders last time or if he is shocking them. I've got a feeling he is doing it.

Guess I'll have to setup a couple of my 20's for feeder tanks.

Any suggestions for something to put with the EC?

I was thinking maybe a couple African Butterflys since they stay at the top a lot and the EC seems to be pretty much a strictly bottom dweller.
