Electric eel as a pet?

Water is a conductor and 300 volts hurts...bad. How would you like to have to wear hot gloves any time you had to do tank maintenance?

Absolutely noting wrong.

The way I see it, there is nothing wrong with these fish. They are just using their own way of protecting themselves. They are beautiful fish that can be kept in a adequate sized aquarium.

All you gotta do is keep your hands to yourself.

You'd need a huge tank to keep one of these guys in, over 500 gallons, not to mention a full grown one can parylize or kill a human. If you want a fish that can "make you tingle" get an electric cat (they also need a fairly large tank, and aren't very good with tankmates).

Best to let electric eels live in a public aquarium or stay in the wild.

If you want something to "make you tingle" go to the supermarket and buy a 9 volt battery(those that are squared) and stick your tongue to the terminals. Seriously, every time I see one of those batts, I do it. It's kinda funny when you do it while watching television.

LOL, I have 2 9vs on my desk, and have been considering doing that for a long time...

how much would one cost???

I've seen them at several public aquariums. From what I know of them, they're carnivores, but only need to be fed once or twice a week. I do know they have the ability to generate a shock strong enough to stun or even kill a horse. For that reason alone, I wouldn't want one in my home aquarium regardless of how big it was.
