Electric Yellow (lab) question

Haha sorry bout that raf.

So smaller cichlids like rams and apistos should be fine in that setup right? The tank will be heavily planted and I'm undecided on caves/wood/rocks right now.

Are there any other cichlids I could possibly add in? Also what numbers do you recommend for rams, apistos, etc.?

I would do pairs... and try to get male/female pairs. Its hard with rams to sex them, but its better in the long run if you dont have two males fighting.

The tank is big enough that you can get a pair of each, say two rams (maybe even another two of a different kind), two cockatoo or other sort of dwarf, and maybe two kribensis (you'll like these guys).

They are all 'bottom' dwellers so if the tank is heavily planted and has lots of hiding places then they will like it a lot, and terretories wont become an issue.

:D

Actually its quite easy to sex rams.

-males have no blue in the black spot on their sides and extended first and second dorsal rays.
- Females have blue speckling in their black dot and have a pinkish tummy, their dorsal rays are not extended.

Thanks for the good advice kribs and val. I think I'm going to get a pair of kribs and rams. Apistos possibly depending on the price, because they are often $25 plus for a pair here.

I know but i've tried to sex my rams so many times and i never can. :sad

i think that only goes for german blue rams.... because none of my bolivian rams have ever had any blue specks anywhere. I guess one could go by the dorsal fins.... but alas they are much harder to sex than many other cichlids.
