I just dropped my light in and both bulbs broke, I decided to just get a shop light from wal mart and I like it better than the light that was on it and it was less than 20 bucks fixture bulbs and all.

So they are just exposed metals? Wouldn't they become corroded to the point of being ineffective conductors? I dont think I have seen anywhere that doesn't have a black insulator aroud their overhead wires. Not to mention the dangers associated with it. Usually when you see exposed wire it isn't carrying any current. They are support wires and the current carrying wires are wrapped around them.

It's fairly common to run bare wire overhead - although I have seen some insulated wire. My mom's ex runs that stuff all time at work. Not sure how they deal with the corrosion factor, but I do know not all metals corrode the same way.

if he was holding onto only one wire he would have been fine, but he completed the circuit between the two.

Only the surface of copper or aluminium corrodes; it then protects the rest of the wire.
