I just got a new cell phone a few days ago, a Sprint/Audiovox PM-8920. It has an RF port near the antenna, and I've been trying to find exactly what type of port it is (TNC/Mini UHF/etc.) so that I can attach an external antenna, but none of the available documentation covers it. So I went to Sprint, got an canned response, then went to Audiovox. This is the reply I just got from them:

The RF testing port was not designed to use with an external antenna, and using one can damage the phone.
I'll ignore the fact they still haven't answered my question for now. I don't buy this line. Can any of you tell me how using a standard dual-band cell phone external antenna, designed for 800 and 1900MHz signals, can damage the phone? I'm sure picking some random antenna designed for some other application could cause damage, but am I wrong in thinking they're just feeding me a line?
