I bought 2 red swords a week ago. They have quickly developed a white coating on one side of them and side fins and gills are totally white and stuck to the body so they can barely swim, just wiggle back and forth. I need a cure fast before these guys croak !

The slime coating you see is their slim coat that is in overdrive due to the fish reacting to some kind of parasite that is attacking them. Can you give some tank specs like size, tankmates, water conditions, etc? That will help us help you.

20 gallon sun lit livebearer community with several generations of green swords and dalmation mollies and two cory cats. I thought I would add the red swords for a little "color"

As far as I can tell they muct have been sick already at the store although they looked fine. I know I should have quarantined them for a while after I brought them home, but didn't have the means at the time, I'm going to set up a nursery/quarantine tank so this doesn't happen again in the future.

I've been slowely adding salt but don't want too much because I have plants and cory cats and neither of which can tolerate much salt.
