My Brittle star has what appear to be white holes in his center disc, and is behaving abnormal. Bloating and unbloating his center disc. And not eating.

Is he dying?

the area where the arms and center disc connect appear to be discolored also.

The other tank inhabitants, "pep shrimp, clown, hermits, kenya tree" appear to be healthy.

well

this is sudden.

i took it out of the tank and put it in a bucket. if it's going to die, not in the tank!!! dammit.

it turned itself upside down...and it looks like the center disc cover is coming off.

my linka star had white holes in it when it a few days after i got it... it ended up dying. I'm not sure if it was from acclimation (which is possible) or if my bristle worm was taking bites out of it (i deff. believe that). I'm not sure what you could do, I moved mine out of the tank and It wouldn't really help if it was acclimation because it was just being moved again. Mine was 100% dying before I moved it :-\ :sad

Alot of starfish need pristine water conditions as do urchins.
Some specimens should be left in the ocean.
I've had my pencil urchin for two years and he's doing really well.
Never had any luck with stars.

thanks trigg

how long did your seastars last?

I am hypothesizing that my Brittle died because he didn't have a dark enough cave during they day, so stressed out over a long period of time, then died.

I still have small brittles from my live rock.
Each lasted about two weeks.
Nitrates and phosphates really affect their health.
I think shipping is the number one cause of death.
Beautiful animals.
