Emily's Pond Build Log

I'll celebrate with ya Emily :D

Congrats on your pond, it's looking really good. I hope to see it with it's liner, fish and plants!

Are you just keeping goldfish/koi in this pond?

Thanks for celebrating with me! :)

Goldfish and minnows I think will be the stock. No koi. I don't feel like it is quite big enough for Koi, plus I want plants - and I know koi tend to be a bit hard on plant life. So, we'll stick with shubunkins, fathead, rosy reds, and perhaps some crayfish and white cloud minnows. Definitely frogs and toads will be welcome as well. :)

I am really excited about getting it set up. :D

Well I ordered the liner and underlay yesterday from pondliners.com. Total shipped was $522. It will deliver tomorrow to my workplace. We will load it into my vehicle after work and then Saturday I am hoping to get the sand and underlay done. Have a few helpers scheduled sunday for the liner install. Also ordered a roll of 2" thick poly fiber to cut up for filter media from mcmaster.com. I need to get the eggcrate sheets (home depot was out yesterday) and the plumbing parts for the pump and filter. Starting to see the end of the project!! Still havent ordered stone yet though. that may be on hold for a while... One of our cars had a breakdown that is going to wipe out a good chunk of what i had planned for the stone... Oh well. Such is life.

Tracking info on both shipments (McMaster.com - Filter media & Pondliners.com - Liner and Underlay) are on target for delivery tomorrow! I still can't figure out why McMaster shipped via SEFL though rather than UPS or FedEx. Maybe just cheaper that way, but not sure how the big rig will be getting back out of my neighborhood as they will have to make a u-turn to get back to the main road (only one way in/out). So I wish them luck with that. Hopefully they don't require a signature since I will most definitely not be able to sign for it while I am at work, and I cannot take time off work - way too busy for that. Plus I need to be there when the liner delivers to check for damage prior to signing for the liner. I may need to call McMaster in the AM to check on the delivery and make sure a signature is not required. Because it's inexpensive, I doubt it will be required, but you never know.

well due to crappy weather both of my shipments were rescheduled to tomorrow. bummer but it isnt like we were going to be able to do anything with them tonight anyhow.

Grrr. Shipping charges on the filter media ended up WAY higher than I anticipated. $44 for shipping a $36 item!! Tried to see if there was a better way but didn't come up with anything, and all the local places that carry it charge even more than I'm paying between the cost of the roll and the shipping charge. It is a big roll (2" thick, 20" wide, 45' long). But still... freaking expensive. Ah well. Hopefully things dry out a bit over the next couple days so we can get the liner in on Sunday.

you are doing a terrific job on this! you are getting a lot of us dreaming to have a pond of our own. good luck!!
