Emperor 400 extra filters

Was curious some of the different things people were putting in there Emperor 400 extra cartriges's ?

filter floss, or ive been cutting a piece of filter pad for my maxi-reef wet dry and i fold it (so that it has 4 surfaces) and put it in the extra container for mechanical filtration. i reuse the cartridges a few times and then i just get news one every other month or so.

Efistrat for added bio-filtration capability.I use Chemi-pure in my canister filter for chemical filtration.Tim

I use extra capacity on Emps for mechanical filtration (I rarely use any sort of chemical filtration.) The Emps have such great capacity for biofiltation, it seems pointless to me to use that extra space for more biofiltration media. I'd much rather remove as much crud as possible before it has a chance to break down.

I put filter floss in mine.

Filter floss is such a great mechanical filter and it is so cheap. You really can't go wrong.

I also use mine for doubling up filter floss.

I have a friend who has some type of "bio mesh" insert to up the biological capacity. It looks like a filter made of pourous lavastone, but I have never seen anything like it before, It supposedly had tons of surface area for bacteria.
