I have both ACs and Emps, and I prefer Emps hands down. The ACs move a nice volume of water and their sponges are easy to clean (which is why I use them in my Emps instead of cartridges!), but they are hands down the worst filters I have ever seen at restarting after power outages and water changes. Mine NEVER develop siphon without being refilled after a water change. The Emps may chug and grind a bit, but they'll reprime on their own. Big disadvantage to ACs, IMO.
