What would you consider the **average** hourly energy drain of a 250 watt aquarium heater, heating the water about 8* fahrenheit?

if you need any more info before you can make an estimate, feel free to say so.

/thanks/

anyone?

daaaaaaaaaaaaaaang.

looks like i wont be getting a discus tank ever.

Cant say I have ever heard of anyone actually hooking up a watt hour meter to one. I would guess they are probably the largest power consumption on an aquarium, but close with lighting if your keeping a high light planted tank or reef tank.

I'm guessing lighting is the highest consumer of power depending on how long you have the lights on for per day.

The heaters are intermitant, I suspect that in a 20-40 gallon tank they don't use much more than the filter over a 24 hour period.

I've been planning on getting one of the killawatt meters to check on things like this.

I would get a meter. There are a couple of factors that will effect how often and long a heater will be on....room temperature, heat loss factors (type of aquarium top is a big one), heat gain factors (heat generated by lights, filter, etc)....really too much to easily calculate.
