I have 5 chambers in my canister. I have a big course sponge onthe bottom, then a filter pad on the next two, the fourth has carcoal, and the last has bio rings. Is this enough media?

I would dump the charcoal first off. I'd go, from the bottom up:
course sponge/a little finer sponge/bio rings/a finer bio media/filter pad. That is what I have in all of my 5 chambers.
