Enough space for small koi pond? design suggestions?

I think there are laws in most areas that say "call before you dig" ... not worth taking a chance.

When my pool was installed 5 or so years ago, my father had them check if there were any lines out there, he assured me that there were not any lines.

and unfourtnetly, that is the only spot that i'd be able to put it, i might be able to elongate the ends of the " kidney shape " along the fence, but for the actually placement that's the spot. It's just the roots that will be a problem, having to probably cut most of them.

and for the depth, i do plan on going like 36" down at the depest, and prob. 8-12" shelves along the permiter.

What you have planned out there would be fine for a goldfish pond but its not for Koi. Its too small. It also needs to be at least 3 ft. deep and 4 ft. would be even better. What is your winter climate? You have to think about freezing, etc.
Also, the tree is an issue, not only for roots but the leaves that come off in the fall and will go right into your pond. That will make a bunch of extra work for you or you will need to net the pond to keep them out.
I also agree that what you have mapped out is too close to the fence. There is no room there to work, walk around it, landscape, etc.:)

Excellent points.:)

If you ever want a bottom dweller, it would be weather loaches (Misgurnus anguillicaudatus).

Looks like it will be a fine project!

Always check on legality before getting fish. Weather loaches are outlawed in several states, especially in the northeast, due to their invasive potential.

Good point, Noto.:) LOL..I tend to forget reading locations when I express enthusiasm over loaches.:perv:
