I am building a faux rock wall for the back of my big tank, the epoxy is made by West Systems it is a 2 part- very stable until mixed and is safe for aquatic use about 24 hrs after application. their website www.westsystem.com gives info and has dealer listings. HTH, Steve.
Thanks Steve, for responding so quickly.....I had heard about West Systems and did go on their site to locate dealers....unfortunately, there are none even close to where I live. No one around here carries Marine 'stuff'.
Are your thoughts that only marine epoxy would be safe? Thanks again to any and all input!!!
100% silicone sealant works well, but you have to be careful to wipe away and all excess. Just like the silicone that holds your aquarium together, it will "white up". A 'cure' for this is to glue two items together and use sand to cover the excess.
Any epoxy that is "water potable safe" is OK. If you use it, make sure that it cures at least one week at room temps to be sure that it is fully cured to avoid poisoning your tank (unless of course the label says otherwise).
BTW, higher temps = faster curing. The safe upper limit is about 110 degrees F or about 45 C.
I used dark cork with plants attached on my 75 (which I really like); but I am setting up a 55 Rainbow tank and wanted to do something different for the background. I have gotten some really nifty ideas from this board and suggested links but I need to find that elusive 'safe' epoxy!!!
