epoxy question

I just ordered some cork bark to use as a back drop for my tank and I was wondering what type of epoxy I should use to attatch it to the glass.

Can I use something generic from Home Depot or are there any ingredients I need to try to avoid?

You should stick with something that is aquarium safe.I use a product called Aquastik .It is a putty that comes in as a stick you break a piece of roll it like your rolling dough and then stick it where you need to.It will cure underwater and it will stick to wet glass.It fully sets in about 24 hrs but it starts to harden in about 20 minutes.
 
If you are going to glue it to your tank, wait at least 5 days before adding fish. While epoxy may be hard in 1 day, it takes about one week to fully cure and off-gassing can be harmful, especially in an enclosed environment. The warmer you can get it after you have finished working with it, the faster it will cure.
 
Most people I've seen that add corkbark just use 100% silicone.

I said epoxy but I meant silicone, so........silicone it is.
 
Hi~

Cork bark is safe to use underwater? I really love the look of it and I was just looking it up to see if it could be used as a backing for an aquarium and this is the only reference to it I could find.

Make sure you use aquarium safe silicone.
 
I asked this question a little while back in the DIY section, got a handful of replies, went to the local hardware store and was pleased to find a bottle of fish tank specific glue (silicone) for only about 6 bucks and its a really small, local store, so I was really suprised they carried it. I was told 100% silicone, but when I looked at bottles that claimed that, alot of them still had other ingredients. I would buy stuff that says fish specific, but I'm also paranoid and not much of a DIY person, so I was happy to not leave anything up for a guess :)
