Eradicating DuckWeed?

Hey Guys,

If any of you have ever had a duckweed infestation in your tank you must know how annoying the stuff can be, it blocks 99% of the light, clogs filters,and when it dies(some,not as a whole) it deteriorates and causes high nitrates. Other than doing a complete tank overhaul,I need some suggestions to get rid of the stuff... In a planted aquarium.

I'll take this chance to remind those with multiple tanks, Always wash your nets!

A cup an an eye for details (get every piece out) I like duck weed as long as it's maintained - JMO

yeah, its really invasive. we have some in our shrimp tank and in our outdoor tank. the outdoor tank has a layer about .5" thick. we give away POUNDS of this stuff to people as well as just tossing it in the trash. it can be removed, you just have to be dilligent about it. or have a wet/dry filter...
 
Hehe, I've been trying that trust me. Checked in the tank the next morning, it had spontaneously regenerated.:eek:
 
Oh brother, let me tell ya... I wouldn't give duckweed to my worst enemy's for their tanks.
 
I actually ACCIDENTALLY eradicted duckweed from my tanks...I had been carefully netting it out...and after a few months found out I had NONE.
I had to go BUY some...how bad is THAT?

So...it can be done

BTW..it's like candy for goldfish...they are slurping some up now...
 
I just netted a few pieces out of the tank, it's slowly working... just gotta find all those hidden -hard to reach pieces.

Oh did I mention that this plant can almost totally dehydrate, and then return back to life!
 
Diligence or lots of surface movement.

Only 2 proven ways to eradicate duckweed.
