I have a 10 gallon tank and would like to plant it. I have a HOB Bio Filter for it
and a heater. I am considering buying a new heater though as this one is used. But at any rate I would like to plant it. I would like to know if any one has suggestions for a light and low light plants. It would be good if the light wasnt over 50 dollars. I also need ideas for basic substrate. I am planning on setting this up and maintaining it for at least a month before I add fish so I can get the hang of taking care of a planted tank. I plan on using a DIY C02 reactor.

Please give me how to's and suggestions for materials

Go here: www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/articles.htm and read everything on the site.
Very informative.
You can put together a box, fixed with a screw-in fluorescent bulb or two to go over a 10 gal. for less than 30 bucks, that will perform as well as many selling for much more elsewhere. All the materials you need (wood, screw-in fixtures, bulbs, wire, plugs) can be found at Home Depot or Lowe's. I've got just such a fixture over my 10 right now.
Then use our search engine and type in 'low light plants'. You will find a ton of suggestions there.
One last suggestion. Get yourself a good clay based substrate (Flourite or similar).
You will thank yourself down the road for doing that.:)
