Euro-Reef Skimmers????

Does anyone have experience with these skimmers? I found some for a reasonable price and was wondering about their performance, also what size tank they are rated for as Ive found much conflicting info on that. The models in question are the CS6-1 and CS6-2. As always, any help is appreciated. :)

Euro Reef is supposed to be the best skimmer available. They have a couple of drawbacks though they may not seem like a big deal.

#1 Their customer service sucks. Their official policy is “not to pick up the phone”. They may call you back after a few days or so.

#2 Replacement parts are limited. They will only sell you a couple of Needle Impellers if you can provide them with the Serial # on the skimmer. If you can not – they will either not sell you ANYTHING or way over charge you. This goes for anywhere you buy Euro Reef parts.

#3 They are greedy and the only thing that makes their skimmer GREAT is the Needle Impeller. They use Dolphin Pumps and they are not that expensive, though if you buy one from them they may charge you around $90.00 for one.

I would suggest making your own. I am in the middle of doing that very thing right now. In order to do so you will only need a reaction chamber (PVC at the least), pump, Needle Impeller, and a good venturi.

I have been very happy with my CS6-2. Easy to set up, collects a lot of sludge. It was pricey, but if you get a good deal, then I say go for it.

Thanks, the info is very much appreciated. :) I dont mind spending the money, I just hate to spend that much on a part only to realize later that I should have gotten something else.

I don't have that big of a tank and went with the ES5-3. Good quality, simple to set up.

EDIT: They're coustomer service isn't bad. If you go to www.reefcentral.com and go down into the sponsor fourms, you can actually post and talk with their represenative. I did this before I bought my skimmer. He can help you if you had questions on sizes to get.
