Euro Skimmer

Welcome to AC! :)

Euro-Reef makes some of the highest rated protein skimmers on the market. The only 'con' I can think of is the Sedra pump - some people don't like them. I have a CS6-2 on my 100g and the pump works fine. Customer service can be slow at times too - I think it's still just Jeff and his father running the show over there. Aside from that, you just can't go wrong with Euro-Reef - excellent product!

The most often-heard complaint is that they are noisy. Some people have also reported having trouble getting them to restart. Personally, I haven't had either of these problems. Mine has never failed to restart and I guess the noise just doesn't bother me that much. All I hear is the water that flows into my sump - no pump noise though.

BTW, these complaints were in reference to the Sedra 5000. You'll have a Sedra 3500 with your CS6-1...might not be as loud as the 5000.

Congratulations on your order - you're going to love that skimmer! Let me know if you have any more questions. :)

EDIT: I should add that my pumps (skimmer and return pumps) never go more than 60 days without a thorough cleaning. Some call it overkill - I call it preventive maintenance.

Well, I plugged it in about 4 hours ago and had to empty the cup 4 times. I am getting white foam and clear water in the cup.

I don't get it. That is why I got rid of the Berlin. I am unable to go to sleep for fear the cup will "runneth over" and go back into the aquarium.

I have the riser all the way down but the foam is coming up like crazy.

Why do you suppose it is white and the water clear with no smell.

Other than that you are correct. It is quite a piece of work.
No noise.:)

It finally settled in and I cannot believe what I have been going through for over a yea with my Berlin Red Sea skimmer.

This is so easy it's unbelievable.

Yep, some skimmers seem to require a little break-in period. A few weeks ago, I thoroughly cleaned out my CS6-2 and it went crazy for a while. I probably emptied out 10+ cups of clear water before it 'relaxed'.

Aren't you glad you bit the bullet and bought a top-rated skimmer? Sure makes a big difference :)

One other thing that really suprised me is the Eheim pump that comes with it.

It seems to be a really nice pump. I had no idea. Iwas only useing RIo (ugh) and Maxi (ahhh).

Think I will get an Eheim for additional circulation.

Eheim?

Eheim? Are you sure its not a Sedra? Did you get it new or used? EuroReefs are supposed to only ship with modified Sedra pumps.

Glad to hear that its working so well.
