Excel Expiring?

I saw the answer to that question recently. It won't become inefective for its intended use, but some rare cases a mold like fuzz can grow on it. That is the reason why refrigeration is suggested on the bottle, but isn't nessasary.

Mold on Excel? On the original formulation of nitrogen, yes, but that has been corrected some time ago. Flourish itself stinks if not refrigerated. I hope Excel does not mold, and I have never had it do so to date. The 4 liter bottle lasts me 3-4 months and has not molded to date. maybe if it took me longer to use up it might?

My 4 liter is pushing 6 months old and not showing any mold or evident problems. That of course is not a sure answer, but experience does count for something.

I don't remember seeing a suggestion to refridgerate Excel anywhere. Are you sure you're not thinking of Flourish?

Looks like it doesn't really expire. Here's my response from Seachem:

"Flourish Excel has a practical unlimited shelf life (i.e. practical
within expected usage time frames, for example it's not likely
someone would try to use a 10 year old bottle of Excel). Things like
storing it in a hot environment will speed up the breakdown of the
chemicals that make it up.

That is one of their strong points - they do release the makeup if not the exact formulae of their products, and try very hard to keep the user informed on what their products really do - which is quite unusual in aquarium products. If a question has to be kicked up to ther chief scientist/owner/CEO Greg Morin, it takes a bit longer - but still is faster and more responsive than anybody else I have contacted.
