Is there such a thing? Sorry if it sounds ridiculous; I'm new and looking for all the information I can.:worthy:

It's subjective but if you ask me, I do not believe there is anything wrong with doing water changes that seem more than necessary other than to some thinking it is a waste of water and electricity. Believe it or not, discus breeders do water changes daily in their rearing tanks to as much as 90%. I do water changes to my goldfish tanks by as much as 70-80% 3-4 times a week if schedule permits despite adequate filtration. My goldfish just love clean water.:)

Not at all. The bacteria live in the filter and substrate, mostly. As long as the new water is treated (dechlorinator), and temperature matched you should be good to go.

As stated above.....fresh water is like a breath of fresh air to us..

As long as the fish are used to frequent/large water changes, then no, there is no problem, but as previously stated the water needs to be treated with a dechlorinating product such as Prime.

If it has been a while since your last water change, then you don't want to do a sudden large change because it can shock the fish. Start with infrequent small changes and work your way up. I used to do 80% changes every other day on my goldfish tank but have cut back to 60% twice a week.

Think of it like us, if we were in a room with the same air, wouldn't we like to have some fresh air? =] Same thing with fish, except their air is clean water
