exodon tetras

Synodontis eupterus; from the same family (if not the same exact fish) as the lace cats you're referring to.
 
very possibly but I couldn't find any pictures of what I had on planetcatfish and they are from wal-mart so you never know what they really are. I was just looking for something that could take a beating from the jewels and eat the eggs/fry from the jewels. I went back and forth between pictus and a synodontis and finally decided on the synodontis due to the nocturnal tendencies versus the pictus being out during the day more and figured they'd be more likely to survive under the cover of darkness :) so far it's worked! Kyle
 
Has anyone here actually owned piranha or exodon's? First of all RBP grow very fast and when they are hungry they eat no matter what. They will eat each other or if you have exodons they will eat them. Exodons are very slow growers and even at full size they are still pretty **** small. I owned a shoal for a long while. Granted exodons or "bucktooth tetras" are aggressive but it is mainly towards their own shoal. They constantly pickk at each other. I cannot think of one scenario where a exodon would kill a RBP or other specis of P except maybe a wimple. A P of 4 inches or better would destroy several exodons. Exodons are scale eaters and piranhas eat chunks of meat.....big difference.

Ok, well time for a new idea...any ideas? I'd love to keep some kind of predatory fish but most would be too large for a 29Gal.

I have never seen a single exodon over 3-4 inches. In a picture or anything.

You could keep about 6 exodon's or so in your 29. They will be fine.

Has anyone even owned these fish?! I have owned exodon's for a long time. First of all I have never seen a 7 inch exodon in my life and would be willing to bet that the largest exodon's would only be around 4 inches or so in the aquarium. Secondly a RBP is a terrible tankmate. They would eat the exodon's like a small snack. Exodon's eat insects in the wild and do not have the power or teeth to much a RBP. I have owned both trust me. I had 8 in my 55 for a year or so with a RD. All they do is chase each other around.
