exotic fish for 10 gallon?

or a male betta, with a couple cherry shrimp, and some panda corys

i have a pair of dwarf cichlids (blue rams) in a 10 gallon, but the thing to watch out for is that the male beats up the female sometimes. I had them in there for a week, and once i saw the female had some torn fins, i put her in my 20 gallon, and left the male in there by himself. he's in solitary for being a wife beater!!!

If you're not adverse to invertebrates, I'd suggest either of the following communities (stocking densities presume a degree of planting):

6 cherry red shrimp (they reproduce quite freely in personal aquaria); 1 bamboo (aka banana/wood/flower/Asian fan/Singapore) shrimp [Atyopsis moluccensis or Atya margaritacea]

4 ivory shrimp (Macrobrachium sp.); 1 bamboo shrimp/2 Amano shrimp

I would say dwarf cichlids if you can get them. If not, dwarf puffers are cool. Me personally, Im setting up a 10g bumblebee goby species tank

Gobies are cool. Could I put some in my 10 gallon with a few DP's?

No, despite what a lot of lfs will tell you, dwarf puffers are 100% freshwater, while bumblebee gobies are brackish water species. Both do better in a single species tank as well.

Not exotic by any means, but I recommend about a dozen white clouds. If you like raising fry, these guys will give you some practice.
