Experience with aquarium plants.com

My work schedule and his shipping policy don't meet at any point.

I absolutely agree. First off, on any given day I won't know when I'll be home. And I'm not going to have an order of plants delivered to my office and then commute on buses and trains for an hour with them in tow.

I've ordered from aquariumplants.com a couple times and I thought they did a great job. (although I think I've had one plant substitution, only because I seem to be the only person on the planet who cant get hygro. polysperma to grow with 2.4 wpg CF lighting, which makes me think it's not that species) other than that, I appreciate the wide range of delivery options, which led me to them in the first place. I was going to order CO2 equipment from them since their prices are lower than anywhere else i've seen, but i think I'll hold off for a few days until this problem is resolved.

thanks for posting and updating with all the info, dave!

well well, honesty does pay

I was going to post this in a separate thread but I guess while we are on aquariumplants.com.......

I ordered a JBJ CO2 regulator from them and received it the day before thanksgiving. So I set it up and all the rest. It's working fine. Two days later I get another delivered. So I checked with PayPal to make sure I wasn't charged twice. All was well. One payment, two regulators, with the same order number. I phoned them up on the following Monday, explained the mistake and offered to send it back. Mark was actually quite surprised.

Anyway, I shipped the regulator back last week and today I received a nice set of free plants. I'm not even sure what most of them are  but hey, it was free.

Dave, I have so many plants it's not even funny. My spare 20g is full of cuttings. I just hate to throw them away. Somehow it makes me feel guilty. If you ever want any, just give me a shout.

I think if you call them and see what they can do to make it right, they will work with you.

Many folks that do this, are not in it for $, they are not huge outfits like DrsF&S for example.

You cannot just get plants any old time and have everything all the time.
Often they get in orders from overseas or other wholesalers and do not know till that day or the day before they get the shipment and then send the orders out.

They can order all the Eustralis they want, but if it comes in as mush, would you still want it?

What if their supplier shorted them? They order stuff with the assumption they will get certain things in.

They also, at least few, have loads upon loades of CO2 enriched tanks and grow these plants out great before shipping.

If you want nice plants and deals, trade with other hobbyists.
Form a plant club locally, go to local club meetings.
Best stuff you'll ever get.

AGA had tons of plants, 700-800 bags, I got A. coffeefolia for 2$ for 2 plants.
While it cost 70 to attend for the fee, it's worth it if you buy weeds.

Mark has a good rep as far as I can tell, he does try to take care of customers.

I ordered a few things on line, not plants, but had a tough time since they sent it to an old address even though I specifically and implicitly said to send it here. I needed it to do an installation for a client. I have had to wait over 2 weeks for next day air. I'm not being anal, I just needed it by a certain date to do the job. They claimed I should have changed the old address and they could not ship to an unverified address.

I told them I called the gal up, spoke to her, told her the Zip she gave me the shipping cost to that zip, gave her the address, gave her the **** credit card numbers etc. What is left to be verified?

Then they engauged with me over the issue and blamed me. That pissed me off. I cancelled the order and told them to eat the shipping cost. I ordered from Drs F&S later. They seem to be able to ship things to the right address.

No live plant seller I've dealt with has ever sent everything I ordered.
I've had sub's, I've said don't send them, but a few I don't care. I can sell them off or trade them to someone.
It does stink that I did not get a nice plant I really wanted, but it's not like they went out of their way to NOT send it, they want to if they have it.

They cannot tell everyone from that entire week's order what they got and email them and ask if that's okay right before shipment. Many customers might not get to them for a few days.
Then they have lots of mush filled plant bags.

Logistically it's just impossible.
So give it a grain of salt.
Don't like that, trade with hobbyist, go to the AGA meeting, try aquabid etc etc.

Tom Barr

Well the saga continues.
I had all but given up on ever getting my Bolbitus that I paid for. So I was quite suprised 3 weeks ago hen I got a message late on a Sunday night asking if I still wanted it. After 2 weeks of unanswered phone calls I finally got through, and told them I definately still wanted my plants. They said they would send it right out. Now it has been 2 full weeks since they said they'd send it and nothing has arrived. I cannot get them to answer their phone so I guess It's official, I won't ever do buisiness or reccomend them to anyone again.

For those who haven't read the entire thread, they did send me substitute plants, which I did offer to return, so I didn't get cheated per se, I just didn't get the one plant that enticed me to order from them in the first place. And I know for a fact they have shipped Bolbitus out to customers between the time of my order and the present.

I found some bolbitus elsewhere and it has had plenty of time to grow out, so I guess I'll live with the buyer beware attitude from now on. If by some miracle I actually get the plants fom them, then I'll post back with an update.
