Hello all,
I was just looking around drfostersmith, and I noticed this filter. https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3579+3580+3597&pcatid=3597

As some of you know, I have a 20 gallon long tank, and still plan on doing two AC 30's With DIY Co2. With this, I could run the co2 through the filter and have no surface disturbance. So, do any of you have experience with this filter? Or should I stick to my first plan?
THANKS!!

Each of my tanks run on two HOT Mags with CO2 . I just angle the outputs down a little to not have any surface movement. One of the HOT Mags in each tank blows water at my CO2 diffuser.

I have several Hot 250's. The tank always needs to be full / kept filled, the outlet is almost too high and causes surface agitation. I take and jam a DIY spraybar in the output to compensate for this issue. They have minimal flow when dirty, but it's easy to replace the micron cart. or remove the media container (with a little water spillage) and get them back into action.

I haven't done it (YET), just because of lack of opportunity.
But I can't think of any reason why running CO2 through it would be a problem.

Was gonna point at that too. :)

Yea, they messed up on that part big time. And almost is a tremendous understatement.
But I guess it needs something to complain about.
A pic of that needs to be in the dictionary for "Fail".
It makes me want to think that their new engineer has never had an aquarium. I've hated every change they've made with both mags' outlets. The 350s outlet are just as poorly designed. :(

I can see their friday afternoon meeting going something like...
Greg: Hey! Hows that new engineer, Bob comming along.
Sally: Just fine! He's already cut our cost by 3/10 of a cent, by shortening the all the outlets!!! :dance2:
Greg: great! I smell some bonuses in our future! :headbang2:

But of course... We have Fixes!!!

The simplest fix would be, to get another Intake. And use it on the Outlet side.
-These things(HOT Mags) do have some power when clean. Alot for a planted 20g.

Ok, sense we don't want to leave the end of the intake(for an outlet) blasting a hole straight down into the substrate to the glass. We gotta do something about that.

One way to diffuse it, is to leave the Strainer on it.
You could put some silicone in some of the slots to block them, to direct the flow in whatever direction(s) you want.

Or

If your gonna have a 250, you gotta have one of these...

This thing hooks up to the end of the Intake. Then a gravel vac hooks to it. So you can clean all day long with no water loss.

In the mean time... You could put this on your Intake tube that is now your outlet tube. Which will act alot like the original outlet, but way deeper in the tank. :)

And if you want to take it even further...
I'm sure some pvc diy'ing would take care of it. I just don't have the facts for that atm.
But I know, you can get some of this...

And make a spray bar.
It'll fit right into the L-bow. I know, I just did it. ;)

But I'm sure with a little loooking harder at the peices you would now have. There'd be a few more ways to go about it. Just save ordering that until your real sure thats how you want to do it.

I get a new idea every other minute on How stuff could be attached to the Intake now outlet.

So all in all, a 250 would be awsome for a 20g Long, short, square, super tall, round.... whatever. lol

Ok thanks for your replies, So you think I should just go with this rather than the two AC 30's?

I would.

Those new C series look like fun, if you want to spend the money.
I don't have one or even seen one in person. But they look neat.

And the 160 would be fine, sense your doing plants.
