External Filter Questions - Kindly Guide me

Outside the house stuff... can work.

My first concern is the outside temp. I'm fairly geographically challenged.

Whats the temps like outside, year round?

As in. Just putting something outside can/will affect the tank waters, temp.

Now if funding isn't an issue. This can be done.

Sense I don't have a clue about your house, here's an idea that you might be able to work with.

OUTSIDESUMP.jpg

This is how a sump could be set-up outside.
But you could easily put 5 canister filters in their, instead.

If its possible to buld something like this outside. There are alot of possabilities to work with.

Just something enclosed, with insulation. To avoid the outside from affecting the tank inside, is all thats required.

Remember hydraulics is just like electricity when it come to flow. If you hook your filters up is series like you want to, applied pressure and GPH must drop and if hooked up in parallel (separate) applied pressure and GPH stays the same. Also just like the old Christmas lights that were in series, if one bulb fails all lose power, so likewise if one filter fails in series, flow will stop in both doubling your chances of total shutdown and loss of all redundancy, whereas in a parallel circuit one circuit failure dose not affect power to the rest of the components and so likewise your filters in parallel will not affect one another and have redundancy. Parallel is the only way to go.

Two eheim 2217s can easily handle a tank of 120g.For a 50 g you don`t need anything else. It`s a matter of properly maintaining them.A blue coarse sponge near the bottom and white floss near the top(along with the Eh-sub-mech) will give you all the mechanical filtration you need.If the tank is overstocked you have to rinse the sponges and change the floss more often, maybe every week or two.
