Extra HOB on tank

I have an old Whisper 30 (rated for 55gal) on a 30gallon tank and a spare model 10 that I'd like to use on the same tank filled with canister type bio-material. Would this give me as much good bio as a bio-wheel? Would I need any filter floss in the there?

it wouldnt hurt. i would put it on there. if you ever need to set up a qt or the other filter dies it could save your fish. you could put filter floss in there or one of many other things.

I would be doing it just for reliability and other possible issues such as setting up a new tank or a QT situation. Bio-wheels are greatly overrated, don't feel obliged to have one.

Thanks. I'm getting ready to place an order with Drs F&S and will get some bio material. My thought is it might compliment the sponge that comes with the filter and really increase the amount of good bio in there.

The more you have, the easier it is to clean some without causing a mini cycle. And you can move some to another new filter to jump start another tank.
