im new to tropheus keeping, so heres my set up
4' 90 gallon
200 watt heater, 78
2 fluv 404, over kill but i like lots of filtration
1 hob ac 500
a few plastic plants
natural gravel
lace rock/lava rocks about half way up the tank
use seacam products for hardnes and aroginite to buffer at 8.8 ph
now fish
1 bought 14 F1 Nkonde about 2" and 8 F0 around 3" from riftvally fish in Ontario. I feed HBH 8 veggie and also purchased a pure spurlina flake from kens fish food in ma. now i want to introduce about 10-14 F0 dubosi m. when i can afford more fish.
what do you think of this set up or any suggestions for me. By the way i got excelent service from rift vally, the best service i ever recieved from a online dealer, I also purchased my F0 frontosa from there about 3-4 months ago.

I have never kept tropheus but have kept many Tanganyikans. From what I understand it is not advised to mix tropheus species/varieties as they will interbreed. Also it is extremely difficult to add any fish to an established tropheus tank because of their aggressiveness. I have almost the exact same setup (tank size and planned fish numbers). When asking others if I could mix other tropheus with my duboisi I was told it would be no problem at all, as long as both colonies are kept in large enough numbers (12+) and they are not the same species. I was told not to expect as successful breeding as I would anticipate from a single colony. Interbreeding is a possibility so you must be careful to dispose of any hybrid fry.
 
They get to be 6" a piece, so your tank may already be overstocked...adding new Duboisis will probably set off aggression problems in the short term, but there would be filtration problems in the future.

Hybridization is probably going to happen in that tank if you add the Duboisis...unless one species fully kills off the others. You would need a longer tank in order to keep the two schooling apart from each other and to hopefully avoid hybridization...but it is not recommended to keep multiple colour varieties and/or species of Tropheus in the same tank.
 
thanks for your inputs, about over stock part because there so small right now, i knew i was going to have to kull some of the over agressive males as they grew, and due to attrition i except to loose a couple to natural death, so i hope there wont be a overstock problem. I dont want to chance interbeeding and the dubosi was recomeded as a good choice because of the difference between the morii and dubosi species. but i guess from your comments that it will be best to keep a species tank of the nkonde, these are a rare trophius and i want to keep the line pure. i will post pictures soon.
