fake and real plants together

Its not all that bad...
hi, i just have 2 a simple questions today. My neighbour has given me some nice plants for my aquariam but i already have a fake plant in there. Does this matter?
oh and at my locall fish shop they told me that the fish might nip at the real plants, will mine? Doesnt it add oxygen??

Basically what are the pros can and cons?

Thanks alot :dance2:

Your particular fish shouldn't be nipping at the plants that much, if ever. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having fake and live plants in the same tank.

pros:
- they look better if you keep them healthy
- they make the glass box seem more natural to the fish and viewer
- natural supply of o2
- if healthy, they will keep algae at bay unless you over dose nutrients

cons:
- they need proper light, different plants have different light requirements
- they add a little complexity to your aquarium that you might not want
- small increase in toc for a mixed nutrient fertalizer like flourish

a lot of "starter" plants are very easy to care for, they need a weekly feeding and low light (low tech setup).
