Is there any danger in using the fake vines and plants you find in craft stores in an aquatic setting? I want to add some greenery to my RES tank, but bigger fake plants at aquarium shops tend to get expensive.

I don't know about that one...I do know that ive seen alot of those plants with a bendable piece of metal inside them, that would be a very bad thing in a fish tank.
Ya make sure that any type of fake plant you get will not have any metel to water area. If you do the metal will end up rusting and cause you some real problems down the road. I know some people who have gotten plants that do have metel in them but the metel is covered by the plastic. As long as you have no fish that will nip the plastic off then the metel will stay coverec and should not cause a problem. Other fake plants from craft shops can have dyes that will leak into the tank. Silk plants I hear are good, plastic plants are good. Just watch what type of dyes and materials are used and if they will effect the water in the tank.
