Fake Stratocaster wall hanging build.

that is cool!

Wow Q!!! At this point, your next project should just be an actual guitar. That thing looks awesome already!

Wow.... thanks so much for the compliments.

I would like you all to understand this point. The fact that it's being made as a fake takes a lot of pressure off of doing the fine and intricate work that making a real guitar involves. The guys who do that are artisans with years of experience and use tools I don't know even know the names of and haven't even seen. For me to make an actual guitar from scratch would at the very least require hundreds of dollars worth of tools and days and days of time I don't have to come up with something that that might not cut the mustard.

The pictures are small. You can't see how off from real it actually looks.

Your enthusiasm is always welcomed and appreciated.
Again thanks

We all know the saying that goes "Ya live and Ya learn". I learned tonight. I made some mistakes learning to do the sunburst paint job.

1. Get all new spray paint cans.
2. Use toothpicks and not a block of wood to hold up the stencil.
3. Paint in daylight.
4. Practice

I'll get it right soon. In the meantime these mistakes are what I learned from.

I'm loving this! It's quite fun following the progress.

Too bad you don't live close, my husband would love to help you with this. He's a sculptor and wood carver. It's not his day job but he's very skilled. It's sad that his day job takes so much of his time that he can't do much art now. As for tools, I know exactly what you are talking about. He's got a bunch!

Oh man I think this is coming together nicely. What a fun little side project love all the pictures, keep em coming.

So I got brand new cans of spray paint in the colors of yellow, red and black for a real try at the sunburst paint job. I filled cracks and holes and gave it another sanding down to the wood in the middle. The middle may show some wood grain through the paint which I would like but if it doesn't that's fine. Most of the yellow will be covered by the pick guard and bridge anyway. With each sanding the body gets smoother but I'm getting tired of it now. I hope the painting goes well this time around. This is how she looks now.

So I tried again. I first did the yellow.

Then put the template on and did the red.

And got this.

Then did the black and mocked it up.

There is a hint of red between the yellow and black. I think it looks just like the Jimi Hendricks guitar picture I took earlier so I'm going with this... unless I feel like it needs more... who knows. What do you guys think? More red?
