Plant Progression + 14g Video

Hi all.

One thing I noticed while looking over old photos is the progression that a few of my plants have made.

My twisted val has grown insanely fast over the last 2 or 3 months, and so has my wisteria. I recommend any of these plants to anyone that would like an easy to care for 'Jungle' tank.

I hope it shows what a few rocks from the garden, sloping the substrate, and a bit of balance can do. Obviously the plants still need to fill out the tank. The dwarf hairgrass will need to spread around the back right corner and the osiris sword will need to grow some more leaves (or risk being replaced with Cryptocoryne Wendtii). I'm also planning on having stargrass grow accross the front left and part of the right, maybe even the middle back if it looks alright.

Thanks, lol. If you've seen the photos of the 14g before this rescape you'll know why I rescaped :lipssealedsmilie:.

Hmm.. I was thinking of a background, not sure yet. Maybe I'll get one and see what it looks like but most of my tanks have black backgrounds (not too keen on the blue or scene ones) so I might keep this tank light.

i've done light green before and it looked good. i just used green construction paper, yoinked from my kiddo's craft bin, lol.

New 'Mini-tank, Rocks, Fish photos + Rescape

Wouldn't the green background take your eye off of the plants? Meh, nevermind.

Boredom over the last few days has led me to make a 'miniature tank'. It's a vase, filled with water, some gravel, a few pebbles and a couple of Twisted Vallisneria stems. Before you start to give me a lecture, no fish will be going in here . I was actually thinking of maybe a few of the native shrimps from around NZ if I can find and catch them, which would be awesome to show guests. I calculated the tank and it's about 1/2 gallon (or 2 litres).

Here are some photos of the setup (16g axolotl in the background):

Yesterday, I went snorkeling at Goat Island. It's about an hour drive from where I live, and a great place to visit. Apart from the fact that the waves were the bowling balls, we acted like the pins and the water was murky, it was pretty pleasant.

I ended up coming home with a few rocks that I found there. I thought they looked cool because they had veins in them, which most of my rocks don't have. I still need to soak them in freshwater and boil them up before they can be used.

Here is one of my two little Zebra Loaches. They're great, they look cool, have great personality and clean up pest snails for you .

I also rescaped my QT tank yesterday, I didn't like the boring old tradional QT tank look. So I added some gravel and a few cuttings from my Hygrophila Polysperma and Wisteria plants.

The only inhabitants in the QT tank are the 2 surviving guppy fry. The reason that I say surviving is because I originally had 20-30 guppy fry, that unfortunately died during the cycling process. I didn't have the time to properly cycle the tank and was to busy to do water changes at the time of the QT's setup.

My cousin was going to give her 2 guppies to my other cousin (luckily I 'saved' them because if they ended up in his tank they would be killed) so I am also going to take them. They're shiny little ones that of course are mutts, that I may end up selling or giving to the LFS.

That's all from me, but I'll see you next time with couple of pretty new fish. But you can wait and see what they are .

FA, i've read that rocks have the potential to go kaboom when boiling, so be careful! i personally would wash them well in hot water (no soap) and set them outside in the sun for a couple days.

Really? I've boiled several different types of rocks and they've never exploded. Maybe I should be more careful from now on? Thanks for the tip. No more boiling rocks .

Nice update. It depends on the type of rock actually....a good soak in all but boiling water is all most things need.

Thanks, these rocks smell really salty, so I might just soak them for a week in freshwater, changing the water everyday.
